Introduction to Clay/Wheel Throwing

Curious about how clay pots, bowls and vases are created on a pottery wheel? In this exciting, fun and relaxing class you will learn about clay, wheel-throwing techniques and the process of glazing and firing. This class is geared to beginners, but those with some experience may also join. Register early; this class will take only 6 students. Introduction to Recreational Kayaking - Session I

Come learn the essential skills and knowledge the novice kayaker or “never been before but always wanted to try it” paddler needs for recreational kayaking. In this 3 hour on-the-water instruction, we will cover a variety of kayaking fundamentals from safety equipment, rescue techniques, smooth entering and exiting, to weather and water conditions and more. Learn the basic types of kayaks and how to select the one that is best for you. Co-owners of Sebago Trails Paddling Company, Bill and daughter Katelyn, have over 30 years of paddling experience and instruction between them. Kayaks, paddles and PFD’s for all on-the-water instruction will be provided. Class limit: 12. After the classes each student is invited to join our meetup group, Windham Raymond Paddling Club. This club schedules paddle meetups about once a week from April to October, each time at a different local launch site. There is no cost to join this group. Session I: Saturday, 5/26, 10:00am-1:00pm, $24 *Same class offered on three different dates. All classes will be held at Sebago Trails Paddling Co., 1311 Roosevelt Trail, Raymond

Introduction to Rug Braiding - Session I

The three-strand braided wool rug is reminiscent of an era when rag rugs were considered an affordable way to reuse wool clothing and blankets to create a rug for the home. On the first day, participants will learn how to choose the right wool and begin the braiding process. The 2nd class will be shaping the braid and lacing. The materials included will allow each participant to make a small trivet or chair seat. Register early; this class will take only 6 students. Knife Skills & Basic Cuts - Session I

This hands-on introduction class will teach students the difference in knives, safe knife handling and basic cuts. Students will also learn proper knife sharpening, honing and general knife care. We will use a variety of cuts and cooking techniques to make a chipotle corned beef hash as a class. Contact Gorham Adult Education for more information. Michael Bell has been working in professional kitchens since 2000. He graduated with honors from SMCC Culinary department in 2011 and has spent the last three years as a Sous Chef at Joseph’s by the Sea in OOB. Session I: Monday, 1/22, 6:00-8:00pm, GMS, $24 (The 2 sessions are the same class, but offered on different dates.) Cooking classes require a 5 day cancellation notice as they require the advance purchase of perishable products. No shows and late cancellations will not be refunded.
