Introduction to Watercolor

Watercolor is a great medium for creating artwork from life. In this course, we will create watercolor drawings of still life objects. Topics discussed will include colors and how to mix them, brushes, basic techniques including wash and dry brush, process, and art supplies. A suggested supply list will be provided. Patrick Corey resides in Windham and has a BFA in drawing and painting. Professionally he works as a graphic artist. He enjoys watercolor painting and photography. Participants will need their own supplies. Supply list will be provided.

Open Studio: Ceramics Handbuilding and Throwing - AM Session V

Calendar May 2, 2024 at 10 am, runs for 4 weeks

Open studio is offered for those who are interested in using our space and materials to make clay work independently from a class. Our open studio is available for use only by those who have taken at least one ceramics class at our studio or for those with prior experience that has been approved by the studio manager. Open studio members can choose to handbuild, throw on the wheel, or both! Materials will include 25 pounds of clay, the use of wheels and tools, a storage shelf, and the glazing and firing of work made in that month. All clay must be purchased through Gorham Arts Alliance and all firings will be done by the studio manager. Members are welcome to purchase their own cone 5/6 glazes to use in firings if they want something other than what is provided. All classes are held at the Art and Nature Center at Tannery Brook.

Intro to Stained Glass Session II

Students will learn about the tools and techniques needed to create a simple ornament. This class is intended for participants who are interested in learning the process. You will be designing, cutting and grinding your own glass, cleaning and preparing it for soldering, and finally using a soldering iron to complete your piece. Pieces are typically made from 3-5 pieces of glass so please keep this in mind as you think of ideas for your project. This class is also quite labor intensive and you will likely be working the full 4 hours to complete your piece. Instructor: Christina Thibault. Materials included. All classes are held at the Art and Nature Center at Tannery Brook (10 Wentworth Dr.).

Driftwood Mobiles and Stabiles

Have you ever wondered how to create mobiles that spin and dance in the slightest breeze? Join Chris Toy and learn the secrets of how to connect and balance recycled driftwood and wire to make beautiful hanging mobiles and tabletop stabiles. Tools and materials will be provided but feel free to bring needle nose pliers, wire cutters, spare wire clothes hangers, and coin (quarter, half dollar, dollar) sized pieces of weathered driftwood. Chris Toy is a retired Maine educator, cooking instructor, author and Registered Maine Guide. He enjoys beach combing, where he finds his craft supplies. He creates rustic upcycled crafts by combing the coastline for driftwood, beach stone, and recycled wire from political signs. His work can be viewed on Facebook at Acadian Driftwood Arts.

Acadian Arts Asian Fusion Cooking Retreat: Roosevelt Campobello International Park, Canada

Your instructor, Chris Toy is the author of 6 popular cookbooks, a private chef, and has taught Asian-fusion cooking for several Maine community education programs. Cooking students will learn how to prepare a variety of recipes from Asia, Europe, and the Americas incorporating traditional and local ingredients. Each meal will actively engage cooks with the tools, techniques, and stories behind the dishes being created. $495 Tuition includes all lunches and dinners ( Breakfast is included with room price, accommodations not included in price).  Day students are welcome. 6/21 (1pm)-6/24(11am), Roosevelt Campobello International Park, Canada. We will be exclusive guests of the international park, staying in historic Victorian cottages. Workshop participants will get to explore the same coastal scenery enjoyed by the summer residents at the turn of the 20th century. All meals are included in the workshop fee, as well as specially planned optional evening activities designed to extend your learning from the day’s workshops. Also included, is a private concert by award winning Celtic Fiddle player, Katherine Moller, in the Victorian parlor of Hubbard House. Special guest Catherine Hunter, will discuss Native American Basketry (included). Register for the retreat, then call Sherry Mitchell at 506-752-2922 to make room reservations.
