Stained Glass Design - Session II

Represent your own designs in the medium of glass! Learn to develop your ideas into quick sketches and then into a full-scale design. From there, you will play with shapes, colors and textures to bring your design to life. Participants will learn how to pick out and cut glass accurately, use a grinder, foil and solder resulting in an original piece. Register early; this class will take only 8 students. Instructor: Deb Harmon Session II: 2 classes – Tuesday 3/27 & Thursday 3/29, 6:00-8:30pm, Community Arts Center (34 School St., Gorham), $59 (materials included)

 

Stand-Up Paddleboarding, Introduction - Session I

Want to try the fastest-growing paddle sport in the nation? Here is a great opportunity for the novice SUP-er or “never been before but always wanted to try it” paddler. Come learn the essential skills and knowledge you need for Stand-Up Paddling, on boards especially designed for ease of use and learning. In a one-day on-the-water instruction, we will cover the basics of SUP’s, types of boards, getting on and off, basic paddle strokes and essential safety issues. Then there will be plenty of time to practice in a quiet, flat water environment. SUP’s, paddles and PFD’s for all on-the-water instruction will be provided. Class limit: 12. Participants must be at least 17 years of age. Co-owners of Sebago Trails Paddling Company (Windham), Bill Allen and daughter Katelyn, have over 30 years of paddling experience and instruction between them. Session I: Saturday, 6/16, 10:00am-1:00pm, $29 *Same class offered on three different dates. All classes will be held at Sebago Trails Paddling Co., 1311 Roosevelt Trail, Raymond

Stocks, Soups and Sauces - Session I

Calendar Feb 12, 2018 at 6 pm, runs for 1 week

This class will cover the basics of stocks and soups; including the needed vocabulary and basic culinary math to scale recipes. The class will also discuss the 5 Mother Sauces (marinara, velouté, béchamel, hollandaise, brown sauce) and how they can be modified. We will make eggs benedict as a class and each student will make either a marinara or mornay sauce. Michael Bell has been working in professional kitchens since 2000. He graduated with honors from SMCC Culinary department in 2011 and has spent the last three years as a Sous Chef at Joseph’s by the Sea in OOB. Session I: Monday, 2/12, 6:00-8:00pm, GMS, $24 (The 2 sessions are the same class offered on different dates.) Cooking classes require a 5 day cancellation notice as they require advance purchase of perishable products. No shows and late cancellations will not be refunded.
