Join us during our Basic Computer Lab starting on Mondays in late September as students from Gorham High School offer their expertise in topics ranging from setting up an email account, simple word processing to navigating the Internet. Space is limited! Students wishing to attend should contact Gorham Adult Education at 222-1095 to reserve their spot! Students will have the opportunity to have their basic computer questions answered: * basic computer terminology * setting up an email account * attaching files/pictures within an email * navigating the Internet * simple word processing: creating/saving documents Mondays, 1/22-5/14 (no class 2/19, 4/16 & 4/23), 3:00-4:00pm, GAE Computer Lab (A137), $5/per class drop-in fee

 

Beginner Guitar

Participants will learn about guitar mechanics and maintenance, chord strumming, scales, music theory and basic music reading that will help you play your favorite popular songs. This class will be set at a gradual pace, with individualized attention and emphasis on understanding and enjoyment. Students are asked to bring a guitar to class (instructor will have 1-2 on hand). Brain Fitness

Would you like to train your brain to function at a higher level? Do you exercise to improve your physical fitness? If you answered yes to either of these questions, then read on…this class is for you. You may realize the importance of physical exercise, yet rarely do we think of the need to perform fitness training for our brain. Brain fitness is now recognized as a key ingredient in our overall well-being and quality of life. Scientists now believe that the brain is able to grow new dendrites and neurons. These exercises can benefit anyone, regardless of age or cognitive ability. This is achieved by stimulating the brain with challenging, novel-enriched activities. Donna Davis has been the Activity Director at the Gorham House for over twenty years delivering quality programming to the Residents who live there. Clay/Wheel Throwing II

This class is geared to all levels. Students may take this course to learn the basics of wheel throwing or to continue to develop one’s skills. Join us for this educational and interactive workshop as Back in Motion Physical Therapy’s Mary Kroth-Brunet teaches you the best core strengthening moves. Beginners to advanced exercisers welcome. You will have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of class. Students are asked to bring a mat to class. Mary Kroth-Brunet, MS, PT, has been a physical therapist treating LBP for over 30 years. Her expertise in helping others comes from her ability to simplify information into applicable tools for everyone. She has taught courses in LBP for over 20 years all over the world. Designing an Appealing Front Yard

This introductory course provides students with the necessary knowledge and skills to design their own residential landscape for their front yard. The basics of the landscape design process, woody and perennial plants, hardscape materials and landscape orthographic drawings will be addressed. The course will culminate with students designing a landscape plan for their front yard. Instructor Celeste Dolbec has a Masters in Landscape Architecture and extensive experience as a landscape designer working with many nurseries throughout Southern Maine. 6 classes – Tuesdays, 5/1-6/5, 6:00-8:00pm, GMS, $89
