Balsam Fir Kissing Ball Workshop

Join us for a fun filled class! Create a gift, bring the fragrance of Christmas into your home and keep Maine green this Christmas. Using materials provided, you will make a beautiful, 16” full arrangement of Maine balsam decorated with red ribbons. Your kissing ball is designed to be hung in an archway or outdoors. It will remain fresh throughout the holidays and beyond. After the holidays, recycle the balsam in a fragrant sachet. Please bring gloves and small hand pruners to class. Materials fee: $13 payable to the instructor. Materials for additional kissing balls will be available for purchase. Tom and Lorraine Lindstedt are experienced wreath makers, crafters and educators and operate Woodlot Management & Products; a local family owned and operated tree farm. Make a beautiful, fresh, 24” (approx.) balsam fir Christmas wreath. This class is filled with fun and laughter. Create a gift, continue a Maine tradition and keep Maine green this Christmas. Beginners become instant wreath makers with the help of easy clamp rings. Your wreath will remain fresh throughout the holidays and beyond. After the holidays, recycle the ring and use the balsam in a fragrant sachet. Please bring gloves and small hand pruners to class. Materials fee: $11, payable to instructor. Join us during our Basic Computer Lab starting on Mondays in October as students from Gorham High School offer their expertise in topics ranging from setting up an email account, simple word processing to navigating the Internet. Space is limited! Students wishing to attend should contact Gorham Adult Education at 222-1095 to reserve their spot! Students will have the opportunity to have their basic computer questions answered: * basic computer terminology * setting up an email account * attaching files/pictures within an email * navigating the Internet * simple word processing: creating/saving documents Mondays, 10/1-12/3 (no class 10/8 & 11/12), 3:00pm-4:00pm, GMS, Adult Education Computer Lab (A137), $5/per class drop-in fee

 

Become a Video Editor

Learn how to edit using Adobe’s Premier Pro in just a few short hours. After the basics are covered in the first class each student will begin working on an original movie. Students are encouraged to bring in their own videos (home movies, iPhone clips, stock video, etc). The first week will be devoted to the “rough edit” of the student’s movie. The second week we’ll tighten the edit and also add polish to each project, which includes; color correction, motion graphics, titles and more. Students will have access to computers in our Adult Education classroom which offer the Creative Suite 5 software and may also bring their personal laptop with the edit software of their choice (iMovie, Premiere Pro) if available. Instructor Ray Alder has over 12 years of experience as a professional video producer. 2 classes – Tuesdays, 10/9 & 10/16, 6:00pm-9:00pm, GMS, $49

 

Beer Tasting Event @ School Street Pub and Grill

Join us at School Street Pub and Grill for a beer tasting event which will include beers from three local breweries: Allagash Brewing Company, Lone Pine Brewing Company and Nonesuch River Brewing. Patrons will enjoy samples from each brewery along with light apps that pair well with each selection. Register early; space is limited! School Street Pub and Grill was recently voted #1 during the Gorham Taste Walk and awarded the Golden Spoon. Owners Albert Asali and Susan Moody opened the pub in April 2016. Book Arts - Session I

Explore the world of handmade books and journals. Using a variety of cut paper along with folding and binding techniques, artists will create a small series of pages beautifully bound together.
